The year 2013 marks an historic milestone for Washington County and the City of Potosi as they will celebrate the 200th Anniversary and the 250th Anniversary of their founding. This monumental occasion deserves appropriately planned and coordinated activities throughout the county, celebrating our rich cultural heritage, captivating scenic beauty and wonderfully preserved historic sites.
An organizational meeting is being planned to establish a committee made up of all interested groups, fraternal and civic organizations, churches, schools, businesses, governmental entities and individuals in Washington County. We are hoping for a broad-based cross section of participants throughout the county who will take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate this historic milestone.
The possibilities are endless but we need your help, working together we can make this an unforgettable celebration. What are your ideas? What do you remember about the 200th Anniversary celebration in Potosi you would like to recreate? What events can we celebrate in Caledonia, Old Mines, Richwoods, Irondale, Belgrade, Mineral Point and other communities throughout the county? What annual events are currently being held that we can make a part of this event?
Please attend the organizational meeting and consider becoming a member of the committee. Please, we need your help, become involved with this monumental endeavor. Let’s make this an event to remember, one that will be talked about for generations.
Sincerely,
John Robinson III, Chairman
Washington County Tourism Council
